Café Americain – Restaurant Concept

The iconic Café Americain, located on Amsterdam’s vibrant Leidseplein, reopened its doors in December 2017 with a renewed concept built around Class & Classics, a philosophy that connects timeless elegance with contemporary flair.

Inspired by the rich heritage of the American Hotel, Studio Linse designed an interior that honours the building’s Art Deco legacy while adding a modern twist to make it relevant for today’s guests. The central bar serves as the beating heart of the space, a place where locals and travellers meet to enjoy coffee, wine, and local specialties in a warm, sophisticated atmosphere.

Star chef Peter Gast created a menu that celebrates modern classics with a refined touch. Local ingredients take centre stage, from the Amsterdam breakfast platter to signature lunch and dinner dishes reinterpreted with contemporary presentation. Café Americain stands once again as one of Amsterdam’s most beloved gathering places, a stage for its city and its people.
