Beer is the new wine: our favorite craft beer concepts

Craft beer is the new wine. Craft beers are distinguished by their unique stories of origin, taste, craftsmanship and brewing methods. The gastronomic opportunities of pairing beer and food are explored by many entrepreneurs. All over the world craft beer breweries are opening their doors. The Netherlands counts 160 breweries, with dozens new openings each year. (New) restaurants and cafés are keen to be part of this trend and fill their menus with delicious craft beers. We would like to tell you about some of our favorite beer concepts!

Beers & Barrels, Utrecht

Beers & Barrels is located at Oudegracht aan de Werf in Utrecht. A perfect place to drink a tasty craft beer. Choose your beer from the extensive beer menu; of tap, bottled, blond, amber or cider, they have it all. Combine your beer with one of the luscious burgers, bar bites or BBQ-specials from the Big Green Egg. For bigger groups, Beers & Barrels offers table taps. At these taps, your beer is weighed and you pay per kilogram!

Van Moll, Eindhoven

The fifth largest city in the Netherlands and not a single brewery. Jaap and Erwin thought this was strange. Hence, they opened their brewpub, Van Moll, in 2013. While you are sipping from your craft beer the next one is being brewed just below your feet. Besides the beer from their own brewery, they also serve beers from other independent brewers. Hundreds of independent brewers means hundreds of wonderful beers. Experience the unique identity of each independent brewer.

The Beer Tree, Amsterdam

The Home of Craft Beer in Amsterdam! The Beer Tree is located at the Jan Pieter Hejjestraat in Amsterdam. Here you can enjoy a variety of craft beers! The Beer Tree sells a rotating selection of over 200 different beers from over 25 different countries. Besides bottled beer, you can also tap a liter of beer to go at the “Growler Station”. The Growler is a small-galvanized pail in which fresh beer was carried from the pub to one’s home in the late 1800s and early 1900s.

The number of craft beer concepts and brewpubs continues to grow. Thus, nine entrepreneurs are soon presenting their extensive range of food, drink and shopping at the Pier in Scheveningen. One of the new food concepts is The Rough Kitchen, a concept created by carnivores, were meat is grilled, smoked and roasted on a crackling open fire or in a smoker. Additionally, the Craft Beer Bar offers a generous selection of handpicked microbrews from small independent producers. The Craft Beer Bar will sell about 35 different craft beers.

Did you know? Brewing beer is a centuries old occupation. The Sumerians, a nation that lived in Mesopotamia (current Iraq) about 5.000 years ago, were probably the first to make beer. It is believed to be the world’s oldest prepared beverage in human history. The Sumerians first baked a kind of bread, which was then crumbled in water. After that, they let the mixture ferment. The beer was often flavoured with herbs, honey or dates.

During the development of an food & beverage concept, we keep in mind the latest trends and developments in the foodservice industry.
